Alexandre Fenías

Alexandre Fenías (Cichava) was born in 1963 in Pande in Inhambane province, the son of peasants. In 1989 he joined the Army where he gained experience as a photographer for the Ministry of Defence. After demobilising in Mozambique, he attended a course in photojournalism at the CFF, and later began working as a photo reporter in the Maputo office of 'Diário de Beira'. In 1994 he also collaborated on the establishment of the photographic section of 'Demos'. He occasionally freelances, and he made an extensive coverage of the floods that ravaged the country in 2000 and 2001. He has participated in a number of workshops and collective and individual and exhibitions and competitions. He continues working as a photographer for the 'Diário de Moçambique' in its Maputo office.
